I've half-joked before that "I am better at following instructions than people are at giving them" but it's really, really true.

People radically overestimate how complete and correct any given system of instructions is. Not only do they radically underestimate how weird edgecases can be, they fail to notice situations where two rules conflict — they simply follow rule C and ignore rule E, but when asked they would say that rule E has no exceptions.

One of the reasons I find prepping valuable in a slow-burn disaster like the one we find ourselves in now, is that it helps flatten the curve for consumption of vital resources

If you already have a little bit of extra hand sanitizer at home, a little extra food, some bleach, soap, and toilet paper, then you don’t have to run out and get these things in an emergency. This helps free up those resources for people who don’t have the luxury of putting together a little stockpile

Also, your stockpile can help people around you in need. One of my neighbors is pretty much hand to mouth, I’m not gonna lecture him on preparedness. I am going to give him food and soap if he needs it
