so, about that 30 day migration cooldown…

I don’t know if anyone else is as confused about this as I was, but it is explained absolutely terribly in the documentation so I suspect maybe yes??

In the docs it says:

“There is also a 30 day cooldown period in which you cannot migrate again, so be very careful before using this option!”

And again it warns you in the UI before you migrate:

“After moving there is a cooldown period during which you will not be able to move again”

You could easily assume from the above that this applies to the server you are moving TO. After all you are MIGRATING your account there, right? And then there will be a timeout where you won’t be able to do this again for a while, like they warned you about, right??

WRONG!! 🤯

That might make sense but it isn’t how it actually works. The timer is on the account you are moving FROM. The one with no followers. That you aren’t using. You can’t migrate that one again for 30 days, though I have no idea why you would want to.

The account you are actually on, with all your followers? That one you can migrate again immediately. Don’t like the vibes on your new server? Take a hike! Do it again tomorrow!! YOU ARE FREE!!!

NOTE: You can tell if you actually are in the cooldown period as there will be a message saying so when you go to try to do it. No message, no problem.

As far as I can tell the only way to actually get stuck is to:
- Migrate.
- Reactivate the old account.
- And then migrate back to it before the cooldown period elapses.

Happy migrating, hope this helps someone 💜💜💜

@yonabee Thank you for this post! I was in fact confused about this, and assumed that it referred to migrating again from the current server. What a weird way to word it for what it actually means.
