fascism
reading a bunch of nazi apologia is probably A+ for my mental health</sarcasm>
god why is "nazis are bad" so fucking controversial these days
fascism
@thamesynne you might be right tbh. context is I was reading the responses to gargron's "block gab" toot and there was a lot of "nah we'll wait for them to do something and then block individuals" as though that is ever a good idea when dealing with nazis
like, m8. they're all in one place. throw a big milkshake at the whole damn server.
reading the responses to such things probably counts as venturing into the bottom half of the internet, but I guess I have poor judgement today
fascism
@lambdagrrl happens to everyone sometimes. i use the "Shut Up" comment blocker, but every so often i still find myself straying BTL and going "when did i turn it off, and for the love of god why?!"
fascism
@thamesynne fuckin relatable tbh
fascism
@lambdagrrl I blame the fucking media, they've been working hard to normalize this garbage
fascism
@Alyx yeah. certainly doesn't help.
us politics re: fascism
@lambdagrrl for at least as long as I've been paying attention (past twenty years or so), it has been a point of constantly-repeated political dogma in the United States that freedom of speech for every marginalized group will be cut off if we allow it to even be possible to deny free speech to Nazis - and I mean specifically Nazis. Nazis are the example every maintainer of this principle cites as "we gotta let them talk or the government will just silence everyone they disagree with".
Which, I think, makes centrists even more willing to defend Nazis being publicly Nazis the moment the Nazis manage to start mainstreaming themselves.
us politics re: fascism
@packbat yeah, my outsider perspective is that US free speech discourse is kinda fucked
(my personal philosophy is "speech acts are no different to other sorts of act and thus can be good or bad just like anything else")
re: us politics re: fascism
@lambdagrrl your outsider perspective is definitely accurate
(also, your personal philosophy)
fascism
@lambdagrrl i'm still not at all convinced that it's controversial for anyone who's not a nazi
to the point where anyone who does find it controversial might as well douse themselves in milkshake
