@keys I've been daily driving Linux Mint for quite a while now. It's built off Ubuntu with some better frontend stuff (IMO) and most stuff I've done with it "Just works"
There's been a couple of times I've had to compile a bit of software. Or troubleshoot an install. but not often.
There's native builds of Reaper for DAW stuff. and OBS.
I've had issues with Davinci for video editing. It runs. but doesn't have codecs for AVI files which my phone spits out. So I need to transcode them first. but otherwise it's fine.
Sound can be a problem sometimes. (it's linux) There's hitching and stuff when playing games that can be eliminated by changing some buffer settings.
What I do now, Is run a windows 10 install in a virtual machine for any of the stuff I need to use windows for. Would recommend VMware over Virtualbox for graphics compatibility.
Otherwise it's not thrown any huge issues at me.
My biggest gripe is that if something DOES go wrong.... It either doesn't tell you, or crashes completely o.<
@Jencen I'm familiar with jack and how that all works, albeit not used it in yonks.
I'll look into mint.
I want to try out bitwig on linux, it does what I want a daw to do on the tin but how stable it is and how frustrating will be the testament.
@keys I think Mint uses pulse. but you can swap it out for jack if you please.
I need to tinker with Jack a bit as I want to try streaming audio over to a Pi and amplifier to make networked speakers for a project >.> Not had much luck so far >.<
