@erkhyan hot fill dishwashers are extremely rare here in the UK at least. Having only purchased white goods myself in this country, can't comment on others, but yeah, basically no hot fill ones here at least.

I've been slowly introducing the word 'creatures' in place of 'people' in the way I phrase things, specifically in those places where it's unambiguous and where one would expect the word 'people', and it's interesting how barely anyone seems to notice and basically nobody has made an issue out of it

My mom has been running a community art & poetry project using the fence around her home for the last 15+ years, which she calls The Poetry Fence. She takes it very seriously and uses it as a base for all sorts of poetry outreach in her neighborhood. She's recently written a book about her experience with this project which she's trying to get published by a small press.

And in her mid-70s, she's just created her first ever website. It'd mean a lot to her if you take a look! poetryfencecommunity.com/

She doesn't know I'm posting this, but if she did she'd probably want me to add that science is real, no person is illegal, trans rights are human rights, and banned books are worth reading. And most of all, that poetry is for everyone.

Boosts on her behalf appreciated.

Yo, I'm heading up a brand-new community project. 👥

We write code by hand. 🤚🏽⌨️

It's a growing opt-in directory of software developers who write code by hand. When you hear someone tell you “nobody does that” you can point to this and say “well these folks do.”

If you're #ProCraft and care about the future of handcrafted software, please add yourself to the list! I'd love to see this grow to 100s of signatories (I know y'all are out there!) and really send a message.

"The angry defensiveness at play makes me think that the writing tool that best resembles generative AI isn’t the typewriter. It’s cocaine…

Writers integrating liberal amounts of drugs and alcohol into their writing process is well documented: they fall into the catch-22 of needing it to create, but having it progressively impair their ability to do so. [It's] a great metaphor for using generative AI: use it too much and it strangles your ability to think for yourself."

Petition: Create a government-owned, free software for Making Tax Digital (MTD)

With the roll-out of Making Tax Digital going ahead, HMRC must provide an in-house, government-developed, fully-functional software that allows easy and confident compliance with MTD. Self-employed people should not be obliged to hand data to private companies.

Going to be linking to this anytime someone asks me about LLMs from now on.

> I do not use LLMs or other "Generative AI" for prose or code, nor do I accept it from others as open source contributions.

> I do not discuss my prose or code with LLMs.

> I do not consult LLMs for projects, contributions, assignments, research, or anything else.

> As far as possible and practicable, I have disabled LLM-integration in my tools or replaced tools that don't let me do so.

> Requests for me to use LLMs or read content generated by LLMs will be met with disappointment and gentle refusal.

> I want to use my skills and engage with other people in the process.

Following recent news, we have cancelled Mullvad's sponsorship of EMF 2026.

If you'd like to contribute to make up for the lost income, you can still sponsor EMF through our ticket shop:

The thing that “AIs” are the best at is turning every communication into a conflict, where the LLM user is the attacker and the person who has to consume its output is the defender. blog.glyph.im/2026/06/adversar

RE: mastodon.social/@fsfe/11668649

The @fsfe just published a press release on the @EUCommission new #TechSovereignty Package, which was released today and contains the new #OpenSource Strategy. The Commission's communication explicitly mentions "Public Money? #PublicCode!" - a good reason for us to celebrate a bit today after 9 years of our PMPC campaign! And then, let's get back to work - fix loopholes, watchdog implementation, get secure, long-term funding for #FreeSoftware.

Read about some key points and my thoughts on it:

Today #CERN released its #KiCad component library to the public.
They are licensed CERN-OHL-P-2.0
Thank you OSPO ❤️ for getting this done.

Originally the library is made in Altium and will also be maintained in Altium. The repo only contains files that have been automatically converted.

It is a database library which contains only fully specified parts. There are lots of weird connectors. Have fun exploring.

Seems the arctic fox spree has ended. Oh well. The bot software seems to develop a personality. :neofoxnervous:

The thing that kills me about all this is that after years of building up kind/human/caring community around me, ppl I appreciated because of those traits suddenly drop all semblance of caring about them because.... they have the perception of coding a bit better/faster. That's all it took.

I'll say it straight: you can't voluntarily and willingly use LLMs in a way that's aligned with respect for marginalized folks, with respect for the environment, with respect for labor issues and rights, with respect for art, and with respect for the community aspects of things like open source.

It is simply impossible. Pretending you can is the deepest form of cognitive dissonance and I'm just beyond disturbed to see it happening all around me.

I've already unfollowed so many folks I once respected, blocked some others, and just generally withdrawn from a community that used to be so personally fulfilling to be a part of. It's really sad.

Given Pink News are replacing their journalists with AI and platforming UK transphobe Wes Streeting, it is probably time to block their accounts and stop boosting or sharing their articles / links - in case you (still) hadn't got the message yet?

"Technology is neutral," you say?

Counterexample: Ageless Linux.

It shines a glaring spotlight on other OSs and their acceptance of bad age verification law, enacted under a pretense of child safety. In fact, these laws normalize privacy-violation and consolidate power in corporate entities without protecting children.

Other OSs comply, but Ageless Linux is a brilliant example of the potential for civil disobedience via technology.

This page alone speaks volumes: agelesslinux.org/map.html
