Hey my favourite chat app Conversations is free in the google shop for the next couple of days, get it downloaded while it's free and worry about setting it up later.

It's an XMPP client, one of these doodads where you can run your own server and they can all talk to each other, just like Fedi. I like it a lot. It has an old-school web revival vibe to it, there's chatrooms you can join etc. Also you don't need to give your phone number and it handles multiple accounts really nicely for, y'know, Purposes. Conversations is normally a couple of quid, but I think if you "buy" it now at 100% off then it'll stay in your google account and you can redownload it whenever as though you've bought it.
