About to reverse-engineer some Zelda 1 audio code, for converting recorder tunes. https://twitch.tv/madewokherd
I don't usually cross-post from Twitter but LiveSplit just works(TM) in Wine now https://twitter.com/madewokherd/status/1274074775879585792
fun with linux
Amazing.
I have the Zoom client installed on my computer (the only things I use it for don't need encryption). And every time I leave the computer for any length of time, when I come back, the Zoom client has started on its own.
It's not a specific interval. It's not a specific time. It just seems to be any time I'm away from the computer for more than 15 minutes; when I wake the computer back up, Zoom's sitting there, waiting.
I check running daemons, I poke at background tasks - nothing.
Finally, it occurs to me: "when I wake the computer up". So on a hunch, I check xscreensaver - which has an oooold screensaver called "zoom". I don't have that screensaver installed, but it's listed in the possible screensavers, so xscreensaver checks for it - and it doesn't just check the screensavers directory, it checks $PATH too.
I remove the "zoom" line from ~/.xscreensaver - and the problem goes away.
The sixth annual international Gender Census 2019 is now open until 25th March!
https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/gendercensus2019/
It's for anyone whose genders (or lack thereof) aren't described by the M/F binary. It's short and easy, and the results are useful in academia, business, and self-advocacy.
Here’s a survey about titles that should only take 3 minutes or so, for literally anyone who speaks English:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScc9qrhq9Y_I3E-4GYritWVpQ2xXj8uBmAMGNmpVF-9XDgWAw/viewform
It’ll end at noon UK time on Sunday 13th January 2019 at the soonest.
Every survey response, RT and boost is really helpful! Thank you. :)
If you really want to help Firefox succeed, file a bug on https://webcompat.com/ when you find a broken website. Don't just switch back to Chrome; let Mozilla know there's a problem so they can try to fix it.
When browsers lose market share, they fall into the "compatibility death spiral." Sites don't bother to test, they break, and users flee to the browser that "just works." Mozilla is fighting this battle every day, and it just got harder.

health (?), productivity
I've been struggling with hand pains for like 9 months now, and I feel like I'm finally finding a balance. The balance involves doing very little work and being very careful about typing. Judging by productivity and how often I say "no, I can't do that, sorry", it feels like I've regressed, but physically I'm feeling better than I have in a long time, and I'm hopeful that I can regain my productivity without hurting myself if I can just be patient.
