Mental health, relationships, midlife

I have a theory and maybe this is already posited somewhere or maybe is just my sphere of experience.

I feel like we hear less about midlife crisis es and partners completely fucking off.

But we hear more about transitioning and ENM.

I feel this is humans realizing communication and support is healthier and more enjoyable.

Much like gentle parenting, and all the other mentally and emotionally healthy practices we are trying to use to break past trauma.

This is the longest I have ever been 37 years old.

don't wait for your kid to come out

tell them right now: i support and love you no matter your gender or sexuality

the bills in some states mandating teachers inform parents if their child is doing any kind of gender exploration does more than put kids whose parents will be violent at risk

it means any kids who are unsure how their parent will react cannot safely do any sort of gender exploration then come out to their parents when they feel ready

so right now. tell your kid. don't give them any room for doubt.

twitch.tv/madewokherd I am once again live playing BIT.TRIP Runner in a very silly way, but this time I am likely to be forced to move on in the game very slightly, to stage 1-4.

CONSERVATIVES: Corporations are people and deserve free-speech rights

CORPORATIONS: Trans people exist

CONSERVATIVES: Not like that

I was finally getting used to NOT having quote-posts.

Please, can we not hate-share things? Don't QP to dunk. QP to "yes-and," and QP for memes, but don't QP hate into your friends' timelines.

This article from @dangoodin about "juice jacking" is the kind of article which make me happy to be an Ars Technica subscriber.

Actual research and nuanced information, while still making it clear that general fearmongering is unwarrented.

I also really appricate that the article includes the following, which is really key in the disucssion:

"The problem with the warnings coming out of the FCC and FBI is that they divert attention away from bigger security threats, such as weak passwords and the failure to install security updates. They create unneeded anxiety and inconvenience that run the risk of people simply giving up trying to be secure."

On my old Twitter account I used to spend a lot of time carefully curating politics/news links and RTs and on here I don't post about politics at all, part because the vibe here is calmer and I don't wanna disrupt it but part because it was exhausting.

This said there IS a constant escalating week by week eliminationist war on trans people in the US with basically zero pushback from liberal entities/politicians so if you're cis please go like… read news yourself… until you are informed. Thanks

Is it common to experience heightened sensitivity when recovering from autistic shutdown?

School trauma, mention of CPTSD, disturbing (illustrated, fantasy-style) depictions of wing-cutting, thorns, swords, fake blood

twitch.tv/madewokherd I'm live trying to learn to play BIT.TRIP Runner perfectly with my toes again. It's been a while so I'm probably worse at it than usual.

I have hard-boiled eggs and I sliced one up and put it on my sandwich and why have I never thought of this before.

Hi Everyone!👋

Meditation can help reduce stress and improve mental well-being. Here are three tips:

Set aside time each day to meditate
Try different types of meditation, such as guided or silent
Focus on your breath and let your thoughts come and go

Meditation is a great way to give yourself a little extra space in your day. It can give you a space to breathe and make better decisions.

Treat yourself to some calm.

How many people have scared and traumatized children hiding in their brains and don't know it?

We made contact with a syskid this week, and.. they must have been in here since the body was that age? Just, hiding until it was safe to come out? That's really weird to think about.

This is getting a lot more attention than I expected for something I threw out there following an awkward call 😅 guess I'm not alone in this

The thing I fear is politics around minors getting affirming care. Every time I post a link to an article in our Pride channel, that feels devasting to me as someone who was forced through natal puberty, I pause and consider how many coworkers probably don't see that as a problem.

To many liberals, teens on blockers/HRT is a debate. An idea that concerns them because they see transitioning as something irreversible one could regret.

But this is a false choice. A choice that betrays their inner feeling, that being trans is less ideal than being cis, if being cis were an option. That it would be better to default -- a choice itself -- to forcing kids through natal puberty, if there's a chance they might be ok being cis. That forcing kids to watch their body develop in irreversible ways, even after they express dysphoria over it, is ok if it could just be a phase.

It's a debate to them, something they view as tricky, because they can't give up the idea that being trans is a last resort.

Being trans has been the most beautiful thing I've embraced in my life. I love the person I've become. The hard part is how hard the world wants to make it. My only regret is everything I didn't get to experience as my true self.
