With all new members we would like to remind you to make use of the CW (Content Warning) feature.

On your post box there should be a "CW" button which will enable a dedicated box for Content Warnings.

Our rule of thumb is that any content that would be awkward in public should have a CW. This will be enforced.

Unlike Twitter, your visibility will not get hurt by using CWs. Usually the opposite is the case as people will be more comfortable with boosting your content.

Thank you for your understanding :ablobcatheart:

stream announcement

twitch.tv/madewokherd Back to playing Runner with feet, after a long absence, we'll see how this goes.

death, afterlife, plurality(?)

There is now a part of me that believes that when I die, I won't be annihilated, or reborn, or go to a recognizable place like heaven and hell, but instead my parts will scatter in the wind like dandelion seeds.

⚠️ Hey #MastoAdmin FYI there is a Mastodon security update apparently coming 6 July.

The reason you probably didn't know about it, is because it was only announced* behind a proprietary centralized paywalled garden. (Not Twitter.)

Be ready.

* This is not a recommended way to run an #OpenSource community.

Happy Enshitification Day! 💥

July 1, 2023: Reddit cuts off API access, Twitter requires login, Youtube may ban ab-blockers, Meta and Google block news in Canada...

A half-year since Cory Doctorow's seminal thesis on #enshitification, how corporate platforms die (pluralistic.net/2023/01/21/pot), and every corporate site seems hell bend on their own destruction.

Celebrate Enshitification Day by going to [instance address]/about, find the donations link, and make your contribution to open social media!

I think the only thing I wanna put out there for newbies landing on fedi is not only do you not have to censor words to evade bots, algorithms and searcher arguments; doing so actively harms the ability of people who want to set up mutes OR enhanced notifications to do so on that content.

Yeah some people might have muted the word 'commission' because they don't want to be exposed to opening ads for whatever reason.

Please don't do that. You don't have to here. We're big on individual agency to see or not see what we wanna.

My ultimate fediverse tips are:

- Embrace these specialised nerdy spaces
- Think about how awesome it is that people have such great passions and how you’re definitely one of them
- Wait, am I autistic?
- Let me research that for a minute…
- Holy shit I’m autistic!
- Oh my god this explains so much
- Oh wow I can finally embrace all of myself and share my true self without shame
- I’m going to post so much about random shit that interests me!

Someone else on another network said (and again, I think they meant it as an insult) that Mastodon is social media designed by people who think that social media is bad, and unironically yes.

Oh my goodness... a LOT of new people... 😮 Welcome! 👋

If you need help with using Mastodon and the Fediverse, have a look at:

➡️ fedi.tips

It's written for a non-technical audience, and hopefully answers most beginners' questions.

If you're looking for accounts to follow, there are lots of ways to do it summarised here:

If you have any problems, ask me and I'll try to help!

I wish I knew how to communicate that I wanna be touched. Like I wanna be hugged, leaned on, hold my hand, cuddle, rest an arm on me. Even just platonically I want folks to get close.

to hell with executive function, this brain is now a worker co-op

nail art

I found this shirt in my metaphorical closet, so I had to use it to show off this lovely nail art that I received this weekend.

Doing it but set to archive instead of delete, just in case.

Tempted to make a filter to just delete emails containing "How likely are you to recommend", but worried it might delete something important.

This is your periodic reminder that, unless you buy and download the music you love, it will absolutely disappear out from under you at some point.

I failed to heed my own advice! This album is pretty obscure, sure, but now it's grayed out on Apple Music, and totally gone from the iTunes Store, so too late there. Bummer.
