mastodon / bird site

I have to admit that so far, when I compare my TLs, there is one big difference.
I can only describe it as #MastodonSoWhite

I'm not sure if it is an instance thing or everywhere the same.

I'm not finding the accounts? Or do they even exist?
I'm not looking for the right hashtag? Are these conversation even taking place here?

I feel like we are missing out on great people.

@cassolotl@cybre.space maybe! i was curious and haven't had much time yet to try things. so far the replies are the only thing that i found that doesn't work as it should, but for actually using it and not just looking around, it might still be better to wait.

@cassolotl@cybre.space yay, okay, replies seem to work if you add the instance after the handle.

@cassolotl@cybre.space it feels a bit overwhelming, but i might get used to it! I made separate home tabs for all my accounts and deleted the shared one that i had for my 2 Twitter accs, that makes it more manageable. Replies don't seem to work yet (now trying if adding the instance manually helps…) which is sad, but it is beta, so.

You have to register to be a beta tester on the Twidere Google play page, then wait a few minutes, then you can update :)

@LinuxSocist@icosahedron.website i know :) my only concern is that mixing Twitter and Mastodon might be overwhelming for me so i might want to keep them in separate apps.

Wow! Okay! I can now use Mastodon in Twidere! Let's see if I actually want to! *doubletweets/toots*

Everyone read this incredible essay by @u2764

"Mourning Mastodon"

If you're wondering why I stopped working in MastoDev, and why my posts about how development already includes marginalized voices are no longer applicable, then read that essay because it gets into all of it super fucking well

Book selection thread for the first official scifi.fyi book club:

So far the suggestions have been:

Solaris by Stanislaw Lem
Hothouse by Brian W. Aldiss

Let me know if you have more suggestions and/or a preference on one of the books already listed!

"I mean, the whump was great, but" is such a relatable sentence that, in various ways, applies to almost all whump that I have ever enjoyed.

@yeenbat that theoretical cat would be so very d'awwwed by this take on the issue ❤

okay, but how could a theoretical cat that is not me ever abandon a torrent of a good thing that is constantly at 1-ish seeds, even if this theoretical cat had already seeded it for a very long time and very good percentage

should the theoretical cat steel its tiny heart, or just keep being a good valuable member of society

@antifahnen yes, @Jules and I were discussing this and we weren't quite sure if the questions are biased to give this result unless like 100% fasc, or very filtery filterbubble, or (most likely) … both. :D

also, yes, some questions are very clearly from a US context, i had to look things up and was wondering how some questions made it in there.

hello all!

i have a new glitchy project up and running to tell you about!

here's the deal:

i set up another mastodon instance and it lives at dev.glitch.social

and it is running a fork of mastodon found at github.com/glitch-soc/mastodon

if i think you're trustworthy, i'll give you write access

for now i will be the only one who can deploy the changes to the server, but i'd like to change that pretty quick

anyway hit me with your thoughts, and feel free to boost!

follow up to my last (announcement) toot

my main motivation for this project (dev.glitch.social and the glitch-soc/mastodon fork) is to create an environment for working on AND USING features that don't exist/aren't prioritized in the original project

some of my interests:

private (followers only) toot federation
user level domain blocking
local instance only tooting
public timeline removal

and generally anything that gives users and admins more control over how the software is used

@Stoori yes, that was how i pictured it, too. using librarything for recommendations, and goodreads for community.

@Stoori yes, it can feel a bit lonely there. I tried to keep both in sync for a while, but importing Goodreads data to Librarything didn't always work as I expected, so I stopped at some point. Maybe I should try it the other way around.
