the framing I've been using is conversation privacy vs data privacy. way different threat models, one is "I don't want to deal with ppl/this is between us" and the other is "this data shouldn't be read except by you"
the latter is very often overkill and way higher activation energy
going from your raucous pub voice to a gently whispered aside into someone's ear, instead of encoding it on their napkin and leaving it under the spare soap in the bathroom
this is the difference between taking your conversation to your bedroom from the living room, versus communicating via deaddrop
