This is a photo of a crashed kiosk advertising the menu and offers at a popular Norwegian pizza restaurant chain. It shows that the kiosk was running facial recognition and basic sentiment analysis on the people looking at it.
Based on the number of people who sent me this on Twitter, it’s clear that people care and are unhappy with corporate surveillance.
The worst bit? Compared to what Google and Facebook do daily and at scale, this is a toy.

And sometimes taking naps together and napping in the fluffy elephant's belly floof. I think that would also be nice. Also sometimes almost maybe hunting its nose even though you try very hard not to.
Tor's free book this month is "Vernor Vinge’s Hugo Award-winning seminal space opera, A Fire Upon The Deep," aka that one book with space puppies. http://ebookclub.tor.com/
It probably won't be the most progressive or genre-bending sci-fi you ever read, but I enjoyed the playful what-ifs explored in Vinge's straightforward narrative style. It's a book that respects ideas above shock or surprise.
food
Fun fact, I didn't like ketchup as a child, and I'm still very sceptical. The cheapest ones that taste almost only like sugar are the best imo, the more expensive ones that are supposed to taste a bit like tomato or whatever are just… nope, why. I can eat them but I only do so for adding tiny amounts of weird-gross taste to otherwise not-so-interesting food.
About a thing that's about suicide
"I want to kill myself" by Vivek Shraya is just… so good. I watch it about once a month, and I always go into it with that feeling that I'm just trying to make myself feel bad, but that never really happens. Sure, it is relatable in that achy and tiny-and-vulnerable-feeling way, but it also feels so hopeful to me, and hopeful in a way that's not annoying or "we'll get over it" or whatever, but actually nice. I like it a lot.
