a news outlet just reported brasil hit 400k deaths so this graph might be slightly outdated/underreported, let's go brasil! we're closing that gap quick! number one, number one! 🥳

if you use the per capita relative count instead, we're already #winning 🤩
meanwhile, my dad, who's 60, has diabetes & a heart bypass, is still not eligible for a vaccine. if you're rich and famous however it's ok, you can cut in line if you're not old enough to be eligible yet
my age group? i'm not going to see a vaccine until early 2022, *if* everything goes according to plan, which it never does. 🥰
oh, and once i do get a vaccine? it's going to be the sinovac one. not pfizer or astrazeneca or moderna, because we're not first world enough for those
so while it's nice to complain that 98% effectiveness it's not enough, the vaccine we have here is 75% effective and not even known outside the third world (have you heard of sinovac since vaccine development news came out?)
(...) is that because the sinovac vaccine is not a mRNA like the fancy first world ones, but rather an inactivated virus vaccine, immunodeficient people can't take it. so that's yet another ding in that 75% figure, and we likely will never have herd immunity.
