i grew up thinking FPSes were wholly insufferable and i would never enjoy them because of the peer pressure i'd suffered to play CS1.6 with people who didn't even like or respect me when i was younger. clowning around in UT99 with actual friends today feels like a great time

it helps that i get to stroke the retro nerd side of my ego playing on a period-accurate pentium 2 because the game will work across so many platforms these days
turns out you CAN have a good time playing a game at 512x384 on software rendering at about 5-15 frames per second
to me it only makes the more chaotic scenes with tons of projectiles everywhere funnier honestly
