i've updated to the latest available xscreensaver using a PPA so i would get proper screensaver inhibition when using firefox and now the "disable screen saver" option no longer works when manually trying to disable it for fullscreen apps which don't inhibit xscreensaver...

using xscreensaver 6.02 on ubuntu-mate 20.04 "disable screen saver" mode does the same as "blank screen only"

i can't find anything about this on google!! i want help!!

k so it seems xscreensaver 6.02+dfsg1-0ubuntu1~20.04.sav1 ignores the "mode: off" setting in ~/.xscreensaver which gets set by the xscreensaver-settings GUI and instead you need to manually change "lock" to "False" to properly inhibit the screensaver

i guess i'll just write bash scripts to easily do that from the terminal whenever i want to watch a movie on discord, yet another workaround in the pile of workarounds that is linux

because, no, setting "disable screen saver" does not turn off locking and the checkbox for disabling locking gets disabled when you turn to that mode, which according to jwz.org/xscreensaver/man2.html should not blank the screen and yet it does

i would love to compile 6.04 myself to see if this bug has been fixed yet but even jwz tells you not to so fuck me i guess
