i think i have got just about the most thorough education on why Achewood is supposed to be funny and I still don’t get it. I think i’ll have to just accept I am just plain not the target audience.

i’m glad y’all like it but to me it’s like reading a printout from a random number generator.

Sure, I didn’t know 7 was going to be next. but so?

@zens i feel like achewood is one of those webcomics where the true value lies in knowing well of these characters deeply such that one short sliver of absurdity comes into a larger context for it

in short an inside joke you're not in on if you don't know who they are

@zens like oh yeah that's so and so he's the such something of the group. that's just one of his classic traits, ha ha good old so and so

it's like sitcoms that lose their funny unless you've been following from season 1

@mavica_again i watched a whole ass video from someone who is the most enthusiastic about achewood as i have ever seen anyone be enthusiastic about anything. he carefully explained all the character traits, and why the big dad fight arc was so perfect for that character etc…

and i dunno i guess I’m just dead inside

@zens i think achewood is very niche and this is coming from a person who occasionally finds funny in jerkcity/bonequest

@mavica_again @zens this reminds me of one example of that high context:

i haven't followed jerkcity in years, but the other day someone posted her version of a strip that i remembered: exact same dialogue, same 1+3-panel format, but redone with Rachel, Victoria and one of the other girls from Life Is Strange

the additional context made it an order of magnitude funnier
