Discovery S5E02

That was a #StarTrekDiscovery episode. I liked the Burnham and Saru friendship bits, one of the better long term things on the show, but the whole away mission made no sense. Only the two of them? And everything is super time rushed but also they're chatting about their feelings?

Also the First Officer Rayner thing was treated as a big surprise but telegraphed from light years away.

On TNG they'd be slowly falling into an anomaly for hours, which is plenty of time for some meetings and side conversations about how the crew feels or even a goofy B plot. Modern TV has influenced modern #StarTrek to require the ticking clock to be super fast paced, which doesn't allow for Trek science and culture to happen in a way that makes sense.

@ultranurd that's exactly it, i feel like discovery tries to do classic plots but gets its hands tied by executives into framing them into needlessly hollywoodian acrobatics

@ultranurd i try to overlook that because i enjoy the plots very much despite that

@mavica_again There is for sure still much to love! I just wish what it meant to be modern Trek wasn't constrained quite this way. I wonder how the upcoming Academy series might differ.
