hey uh is the raspberry pi 3 really this bad at uh checks notes displaying a window on bone stock raspbian or do i have a defective unit

how do people make emulator machines out of these things

or is it just a linux thing. it's great for video game graphics bullshit for everything else

all i wanted was a netflix machine that had composite out that did true 4:3 since they shut down the wii servers and no android box that has composite out can actually do 4:3

i know right, it's crazy, it's like we forgot old technology existed or something. like the burning of alexandria

@mavica_again It's not just old technology, it's old and very bad technology. It's worse than $50 cell phone technology. browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/8

Hell, even searching the Pi 4 and Pi 5 on the Geekbench 6 results, it's dismally bad. At least for general purpose computing. They're probably not really meant to actually be used for desktop replacements.

I felt like recommending some Rockchip thing years ago, but even now, it's still only supported by a proprietary Linux kernel driver, and it's only available for a specific kernel version. And they didn't pick an LTS kernel for their base, they picked a sorely outdated non-LTS version.

I guess everything sucks?

@chris i was referring to the part where android boxes do composite but can't do 4:3

@mavica_again That's particularly arse too. But that's probably because they're using HDMI to composite converters with fixed resolutions. And of course, god forbid they support 4:3 resolutions with a tech that only had 16:9 stretching bolted on late in its life.
