is there anywhere to get an external usb blu ray drive in the UK that's significantly less than 100 pounds that isn't Amazon or eBay scam listings for drives that are actually DVD only or did blu ray really become a dead format before ever going down in price like DVD did
Does it have to "look good" or just "work"? Reason I ask is you can frequently just buy the drive seperately (or have a spare one kicking around, take out of a junker PC) and then connect it seperately whith a USB-2-sata adapter which are only a few bucks at <local computer hut>; power it with a spare atx PS kicking around kinda thing. Its the bundling with a power supply and nice enclosure that makes it $.

I think the cheapest way to get a USB Blu-Ray drive that works well is to pick up an LG BU-40N slim internal drive and a USB slim optical drive enclosure. Most decent USB Blu-Ray drives use the BU-40N anyway
@UntaggedTransmitter this is a good lead, thank you
@mavica_again There is also a more comprehensive list of drives with ripping friendly firmware and some other details on the MakeMKV forums. If you don't plan on ripping retail Blu-Rays this isn't super relevant though.

Looks like the PS3 can be had for ~£100. I haven't used mine since I moved house a few years ago, but I can confirm that it's a good BluRay player, even if it is a power hog.
Does't exactly answer your question, but if you can't find what you're looking for...
@lolcat not sure i can power it from usb
the best prices i can find on eBay are around 60 pounds and even those i'm not fully sure aren't just DVD only drives with blu ray in the title same as the ones being sold for 17 quid
