"mozilla bad because LLMs".... okay..... but what's the alternative that isn't built on top of chromium or firefox then
if mozilla goes in the google antitrust case do you think someone else who won't use LLMs will continue to develop firefox?
like i just want to understand what's the long term goal here because every time i tried to go back to windows 98 and not deal with modern software the same kids crying about this told me i shouldn't be putting it online because it's unsafe
@mavica_again I use this heavily modified FF fork https://thorium.rocks/mercury. And one day Ladybird will be ready :)
@mrfry you do realise that to fork firefox there needs to be a firefox, right?
how's that OS/browser from scratch project going anyway, is the lead still claiming to be "apolitical" while shaming minorities out of contributing and pointing out bad actors in it?
@mavica_again To fork Firefox there needs to ** have been ** a Firefox. Correct me if I’m wrong but once a project is forked, the fork is a new independent project. Just like what happened when Audacity became enshittified and Tenacity was created. Regarding Ladybird I mentioned it in passing because it’s the only free browser I know about that is not based on FF or Chrome. I don’t know much about the project but I’ll look into what your saying so I don’t advertise projects that don’t respect people. I guess then there’s Vivaldi?
@mrfry i'm not trying to argue in bad faith here i'm just saying that making a web browser in 2024 is far from a trivial task with what monstrosity the web has become and the people hoping that mozilla gets crushed as a byproduct of the google antitrust case are only wishing for things to get worse
@mavica_again Guilty as charged, I should have done more research before casually responding to your post. I do, like you, suffer emotionally and technically from the fact that we live in a world where we can only chose between shit or crap. Thanks for your second response :) I must have known that Vivaldi was a Chromium fork because I remember switching from FF vanilla to Mercury after methodically dismissing all other options for various reasons... Back to the drawing board I guess!
