i have a Sony Mavica FD-71 that's working but taking pictures much darker than an FD-75. from what i can tell they're ostensibly the same camera with the same sensor hardware only with/without manual focus. has anyone serviced these models? is there some aging component that can be replaced to make the pictures not as dark?

@vxo you know video gear. these use camcorder grade CCDs i believe

@mavica_again
Interesting. I wonder if there's a gain setting or maybe stuck iris or ND filter

@vxo i don't think it even has an option for an iris or nd filter, but a failing gain circuitry is likely

@mavica_again is it an automatic exposure kind of camera? I know its a digital but in older analogue cameras built in light meters can fail leading to over/underexposure. that might be something you can scavenge and replace from a broken donor.

@earthshaking it is, and it does seem to react properly when pointing it at a bright light

is there anything i can measure to be able to tell?

i really wish i could somehow modify the firmware on these and allow for manual exposure instead
