name changes, uk government process
Dear UK Government,
Specifically HMRC,
Your "change of name" form has the following fields:
-First name changed? (checkbox)
-New first name (text)
-Middle names changed? (checkbox)
-New middle names (text)
-Last name changed? (checkbox)
-New last name (text)
So, given that when I changed my name (years ago) I dropped all my middle names, that means I have to tick "middle names changed", but doing so means I must put some text in the "new middle names" box. I can't leave it empty.
What!?
Apparently "-" (hyphen) is an acceptable thing to put in that field. It's the closest thing to empty that it would allow.
Looking forward to getting my next tax submission rejected because my middle name is not a hyphen on the next form that I submit.

@mavica_again I didn't. I tried a space and a non-breaking space. Perhaps I should have tried harder to fool it though
