@jk sometimes i look at my old code and it's absolutely wretched hundreds of characters long single lines of a convoluted "if" condition. and then i look at what it compiled to and it works. and logically i can affirm that it doesn't matter what the code looks like if it works yet i cannot recapture the hubris to make new things
@jk this works sometimes with me, but not always! there needs to be a right quality of "novel" before my brain can pick it up eagerly. and then drop it a week later
@mavica_again i think I often have to try to trick myself using novelty maybe? like if the only new thing is “i want to do this thing i already did but better” then i get lost in abstract code stuff because that’s the main appeal. but if the novelty comes from a new idea, then i can awkwardly stumble over any necessary hurdles, emerging bleary-eyed with grazes and twigs and thorns in my fur
