well now *this* is an interesting set of curves. the vertical gender differences don’t seem all that huge at first, but look at the horizontal differences:
half of men think they’re above average after coding for 5 years. it takes the rest of us 8 years to grow that kind of confidence.
two thirds of men think they’re above average at the 10-year mark. the equivalent milestone is 18 years for nonbinary folks and 22-23 years (TWENTY-THREE YEARS!) for women.
one of life’s crueler ironies is that impostor syndrome and the Dunning-Kruger effect are both real.
