I mean, good lord, we literally have a field of study called "classical studies" that means very specifically "pre-100 AD Greece and Rome" and not, say, ancient Germany or ancient England or ancient Africa or ancient Asia or ancient North or South America or... you know? We've declared ownership over this fractional bit of history, and as a culture we've decided that osmosis is all we need to understand it. @DensetsuNoGomez
