@whitequark I do not think it was. The authors continue to defend the work, anyway--at least as I recall.
@whitequark Indeed. The extent to which arsenic can substitute for phosphorus in biochemistry was a matter of some dispute many years ago, when a questionable paper appeared claiming the discovery of organisms that could actually _use_ arsenic in the same manner as phosphorus.
@whitequark I fear I missed your biochemistry toots. I would have commented on them, had I seen them.

@Capheind "The World According to GURPS"
@LottieVixen it's making me think of old childhood dreams of building radios to pick up maritime broadcasts and other such interesting little things
@LottieVixen damn, that would be a nice project
oooo fuck this looks fun http://www.instructables.com/id/NOAA-Satellite-Signals-with-a-PVC-QFH-Antenna-and-/
@Canageek Prince John gets a somewhat unfair reputation. Arguably Richard was the bigger disaster
Undertale, personal stuff, Flowey
So I can sort of see Flowey now as someone who could have been an endpoint for me--a bitter, self-hating "male" who went around convinced that he was the bee's knees because he and only he truly grasped how disgusting we all are. That could have been me. That could have been [Deadname]. But Chara wanted more...they wanted to be happy. I want to be happy. I want to smile in the face of defeat, because then at least I'll be smiling.
Undertale, personal stuff, Flowey
And that's kinda Flowey's thing, isn't it? You know how some people (white cis male atheists tend to fall into this trap) when they get disillusioned with a thing (a religion, a philosophy, even just a movie or a game), they go totally _apeshit_ in _insisting_ that nobody gets to enjoy it either? That's Flowey. They fucked up, experienced pain, and that "proved" to them that life is pain and they're the only guy smart enough to realize that. and if he has to, he'll inflict the pain himself...because that's what happens if you pride yourself on accepting that life is pain but none of your friends do. You start hurting them.
Undertale, transstuff
I had to pause the stream after finishing up with Asriel. I don't think anyone was actually listening when I broke down...but I've got a recording *wry smile*
Speaking with Asriel felt like...speaking to my pre-transition self. He tried so hard, [Deadname] did. Nothing made sense to him but he tried so fucking hard to _make_ it make sense. He didn't do the best job, and he hurt some people, just like Asriel / Flowey hurt people. And when I finally woke up...[Deadname] realized it was time to step aside. He didn't stick around like Flowey, trying to _prove_ there's no point in being happy, responding to misery with misery.
@Vedia_Lupae @Ulfra_Wolfe Hello, Vedia! We are all glad to see you. *offers a hug*
@Dhveszak @kara_dreamer Well, I do not speak, literally, but occasionally when Kara uses her voice she will use it to converse with me. She is a little self-conscious about doing so, however.
@kara_dreamer @Dhveszak Hrm, yes.
@nire ah! I did not know that. My own interest in paracetamol, I confess, is its ready conversion to p-benzoquinone.
@nire I wasn't aware there was a specific antidote.
@nire I am still uncertain as to why paracetamol is sold over the counter. It doesn't seem to _do_ anything (aside from kill one's liver in excess.)
@jalefkowit I suspect that a dozen people are forever chasing after him, trying to do the equivalent of that.
how much farther along would we be right now if that brainpower and those labor hours were invested in LITERALLY ANYTHING other than 'how can we make more money from this'
