I created an open source library on GitHub called AquaUI, which I am hoping others will contribute to and build on.

github.com/jonsterling/AquaUI

> AquaUI is a love letter to the Macintosh of the Aqua era—with its uncompromising attention to detail, futuristic design, and “lickable” visual style.

> The goal is not necessarily to recreate 2000s-era Aqua visuals pixel by pixel: instead, we aim to imagine how the Aqua design language could have evolved if it had been allowed to do so.

Someone should make a browser like "The Old Safari", where there is a damn titlebar that shows the whole title of the website. I am so tired of these "compact" layouts that are completely unnecessary on today's high density displays.

I think the appealing thing about the universe of Dune is 10,000 years of no IT problems whatsoever.

for a game like this, kind of centered around mastery of a mechanic, it's important for nailing it to feel good. but i think it's almost as important for fucking it up to feel bad. not too bad, it shouldn't be discouraging, but it should feel kind of existentially unsatisfying. instant feedback to tell you "that was wrong" that drives you to get it right next time. and it makes getting it right feel all the better

we installed DATA WING, a game that i actually did play a long time ago but forgot about and saw a reminder of how good it is

short little singleplayer top-down racing game where you accelerate more when your back is pointed towards a nearby wall. so you want to take smooth turns as wide as possible, steering just enough that you ride the wall for a boost without bumping into it. it feels good as hell

MacOS is a perfect OS to emulate Windows and Linux: because Cmd+C is copy and Cmd+Tab is switch Windows, there is no danger in using Ctrl+C and Alt-Tab inside the emulator. Conveniently, Cmd+Tab brings me out of the emulator.

Verdict: we need more META buttons on our keyboards.

I was trying to find a folder of files I needed to copy onto a USB drive for a friend. I thought I might have left it in my Downloads folder, so I checked:

I've recently downloaded:
* Visual Studio Code
* Ghidra
* Sublime Text
* Open Watcom IDE
* Arduino IDE

and didn't spot my friend's folder for a moment, because her name is /Eclipse/.

"2025 is the year of desktop Linux" no longer most ridiculous OS-related claim about upcoming year, thanks to Microsoft

We are not "late," we are simply building hype for our eventual arrival.

Fun fact a previous employer used a country's TLD as their internal domain (???) and that basically made me who I am today on the Windows networking stack
infosec.exchange/@ftp_alun/113

@SwiftOnSecurity I once had to deal with a customer that was running their internal network on a class A that wasn't being used. Somehow it worked for them until they tried to get some Windows machines in.
The Windows machines didn't communicate with anything on their network.
"So what unused Class A did you install your network on? 10.*?"
"No, 127.*."
...
"And that's been working for you?"
"Right up until we tried to use Windows. Windows is a piece of shit, can't do simple ordinary networking."
"No, Windows right here is obeying all the RFCs. Your Suns are sending out traffic they should be keeping internal. You need to renumber your entire network."

I hope this email finds you well and in good health and spirit.

@NanoRaptor Genre Reveal party. Turns out, my life's story is actually a dystopian alternative history. It explains so much.

Adult gender reveals should be a thing and we pick our own colours and everything.
