USpol: good trans news

Some good trans news: We just helped defeat a local measure in San Diego County trying to ban trans youth in sports!

So many people came out to oppose the measure and stand up for trans kids, and thousands of e-comments opposing the item. There are people who see us right now and will stand up for us. More and more people are putting their own comfort and necks on the line for trans people and especially trans kids.

More and more, I genuinely believe we can win, especially in local areas.

@roadriverrail yea, I wouldn't call it "objectively good" either, I would say I had a fun time watching it

ooh I just had a horrible idea.

So Rust has an extension called "cargo-mommy" which makes the compiler act like a mommy-domme when you compile stuff, right?

and recently I've been hacking on some old Microsoft Agent systems. What if I combined the two?

You hit compile, there's a few errors, and then suddenly, you see her...

anyway, PSA for austrian transfems who didn't change their name in ÖBBs system i guess:
ÖBB doesn't allow you to change your name easily
you can do that anyway if you open devtools, find the input element for the first name, and just remove "disabled="""
you can just click save and... it saves correctly.

tfw you play something you half-know on keyboard and realise it spans just over three octaves and many of the intervals involved are very close to a perfect fourth and you go 💭🎸❗️

for me, hacking on graphics stuff always ends up with me getting absolutely unexpected results that are mighty pretty. this isn’t even close to what I wanted, but the pattern is really cool…

now, more than ever, i want you to know that if you want to be trans you can just, be trans, no matter what the government says

I had off by one errors in two directions! but sadly they didn't cancel each other out.

note to self: before you try to CALL a function, make sure you have a stack first.

We all know about the Pioneer Plaque and Voyager’s Golden Record but have you seen the ‘Water Words’ on the Europa Clipper. It is a plate made of tantalum and has the waveforms of the sound of the word water in 103 languages engraved on one side.
Its a plate of semiotic beauty and I hope future lifeforms will not listen to it backwards.

uspol, labor organizing

"Trump is playing Grinch here – he's descended upon Whoville to take all the Christmas decorations, in the belief that these are the source of Christmas. But the Grinch was wrong (and so is Trump): Christmas was in the heart of the Whos, and the tinsel and baubles were the expression of that Christmas spirit. Likewise, labor rights come from labor organizing, not the other way around."

There are so many elements here that I feel people miss – or refuse to understand – about coups.

For example, none of what the South Korean president did was legal. But that alone would not have stopped the coup.

If people just waited, twiddled their thumbs, and thoughtfully commented how "this is illegal", the coup would have probably succeeded.

Remember the coup attempt in South Korea two months ago?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2024_Sou

It started with late night declaration of martial law. Proceeded to military being actually deployed.

People came out into the streets in the middle of the night and physically refused to follow directions by military personnel enforcing the martial law.

Policymakers voted to end the martial law, inside the National Assembly building that was being stormed by the military.

Coup ended within 6h.
