@mxfraud Turned out the fallback graphics was working the whole time

@mxfraud I ssh:ed from another computer and attempted to fix the graphics drivers, but checking the logs it turned out that I had another issue. The gnome display manager failed to start due to misconfiguration, the steps in this guide resolved the issue:

discussion.fedoraproject.org/t

Decided to film the startup in 60fps and on like a single frame I can see the message:

"NVIDIA kernel module missing. Falling back to nouveau"

Called it. lol. 🫠

My current theory is graphics driver issue, cause that's been the issue every time I've upgraded

Show thread

And after the upgrade it doesn't work, same as last time

Show thread

I had missed upgrading for a while, I was still on fedora 41

Doing a system-upgrade on my fedora install. Upgrading package 44 / 7207...

After typing "Start a" on my phone keyboard it suggests the words 'business' and 'fire' and that feels like polar opposites somehow

you've heard of truth tables, now get ready for lie algebra

why did they call them "ai datacenters" when they could have called them "slopping malls"

anyway, complexity is the enemy

yes

part of it is my ongoing rebellion against complexity. the simplicity of this approach offers a certain robustness that modern programming seems to have given up on entirely. "my image is some bytes in memory and i change colors by changing the bytes" is (in my opinion) robust in a way no modern graphics API can be

i think it's incredibly funny that i'm regressing in game tech as time goes on. literally writing my latest game in C with software 2D that uses blit functions i wrote myself

i wanna blame the absolute state of things in tech for this and that may be part of it but i think i'm also just *like this*

"GET ONBOARD OR GET LEFT BEHIND!!!"

"What exactly am I getting on board with here?"

"REIMAGINING THE MOUSE POINTER FOR THE AI ERA!!!"

@Em0nM4stodon I'm not suggestion that we should open meetings by loudly yelling

But I'm not entirely against the idea... :flan_set_fire:

I've been playing Slay the Spire for a while and I feel like I'm somehow getting worse at the game, it's fun though

this graduation speech moment is notable, and her amazed shock at having failed to read the room feels instructive.
