Good night lovelies! 😴 πŸ’– ✨ πŸ’€

about "old school trans people", from a young trans person who didn't know we could live past 40 (cw contrapoints and transphobia) (long)

dive a little bit into any lgbt/queer scene and you'll likely be able to see this divide between older and younger trans people. Not in age, but more generally in the time they transitioned.

I'm not going to be talking about online spaces, these are my real life experiences.

I first met an actual older trans person last summer. I'd been full-time and passing as cis for a year at that point, and out for longer than that. I cried and hugged her, because I didn't know people like that existed, I didn't know I could survive. She was incredibly kind to me and she told me about some of the shit she'd been through and how a talk I did about transphobia with amnesty resonated with her deeply.

I went on to meet a few older trans and nb people later and NONE of them were that kind of "old school"

the ones that were, I met later, when I met my therapist at an organization for south american trans sex workers. People who were in constant danger, people who knew what it's like to genuinely fear for their lives every day because no one wanted them to exist. And they were motherly. At first, i found them patronizing, telling me that I shouldn't be wearing bowties and that I looked like a girl dressed up as a boy, that I'd get harassed and that it wasn't worth it, that I should try to blend in.

They told me that because what they saw was a young girl in a new space, as old as they were when they began their transitions 30 years ago, and they were genuinely concerned for me. But they were kind, and loved each other, and had a passion in their eyes, that said "I've got your fucking back". These women are Old School Trans. The ones that are still in constant danger, and it's appalling that Natalie "white middle class trans women aren't the ones getting killed" Wynn would even consider herself similar to them.

All these people I've met and more had one thing in common. They wanted the younger generations to be safe and happy. Contrapoints isn't old school trans, she's holding on to her privilege because she feels the younger generations will take away the comfort she got by appealing to our oppressors. Fuck her.

"but what about serial killers?" is such a bad argument against prison and police abolition.

If you're dealing with serial killers, the last thing you want to do is give them a shit-ton of weapons and a badge that gives them immunity from consequences, but here we are
