Because one of the most common suggestions I hear about organising is to "Join a Union" (like the IWW), I want to say something; it's critical of unions, but is in no way me saying that joining a union is a bad idea. It's not.
Instead of simply saying "Join a Union" and nothing more, I want people to realise a few things about unions. Even the ones we see as "good," like the IWW.
They are not perfect, and they need to be held to higher standards of accountability and responsibility. Just telling people to "join a union" does nothing to solve the issues that a lot of people face *after* they join.
Much of this is going to be from my own personal experiences and background, so feel free to add/comment.
