Unpopular opinion: One should never call themselves an expat. Sure, it used to have a specific meaning, but nowadays, its meaning is just "privileged (white) immigrant".

Ever since I moved to Berlin, I made a point to call myself an immigrant, and it was surprising how many low-key racists got confused by that, as they preferred to call white immigrants expats to differentiate that from "the bad ones".

Note, you're not bad for calling yourself an expat, but it's worth a reevaluation.

Anyone know any good alternatives to twitch alerts by streamlabs? I prefarably want something that can run locally, I don't want to rely on a third-party service

fares are a holdover of a culture of "properness" and disproportionately affect disadvantaged people

fareless systems see significant increases in use, which directly translates to less use of cars and healthier cities

In the seventies, before desktop computers, both SF media and contemporary commentary portrayed data centralization as a huge threat. Both the surveillance issue and the labor capital issue. Then in the micro era, that earlier view of the computer as a scary spider was recontextualized as a joke, as an unfounded boomer fear. Who needs to be afraid when there is Windows 95 on every desk?

And now here we are.
