What rest becomes when you get chronic illness

Becoming chronically ill means you have to totally redefine what rest is.

Before, rest could mean chilling, binge watching my favourite series, and playing video games.

Now rest can mean sleeping for 14 hours. When awake, forcing myself not to think much. No reading, no watching, no lights. Eat bland food. Be in the dark, and be extremely bored.

I luckily have recovered enough that I don't need this type of rest too often. But in early burnout it was daily. I can't express how difficult it is to have ADHD and purposefully try not to think. I was excruciatingly bored and understimulated. But I had to rest. It sucked. I got the smallest taste of what severe ME/CFS can be like. I take fatigue very seriously now. Fatigue goes so much deeper. The fatigue I knew before was the kiddy pool.

Don't get chronic fatigue, folks. It's not fun.

Oh I'm sorry you wanted *less* cable spaghetti? i swear you said you wanted *more*. I even bought a new roll of ESD tape to wrangle it all.

Got the baseT test fixture cabled up so I can troubleshoot g13's link issues after work, but didn't have time to collect any data yet.

If you haven't seen it before, this is a handy dandy little gizmo consisting of two RJ45 jacks connected back to back by dual directional couplers.

This gives me 16 SMA outputs with 10 dB attenuated views of each of the 8 wires in the twisted pair cable, seen from both directions. I'm using an 8 channel PicoScope 6824E to look at all 8 lines coming out of the DP83867, ignoring the inbound data from the other side.

Since it seems #Google has decided to uni-laterally force through their new anti-#adblock #DRM euphemistically named "Web environment integrity", I decided to add a little bit of code to my website that blanks out the page and displays a protest message with a link to the firefox download page when you visit it from a browser with this DRM feature. Here's the source inside one toot, feel free to copy and put it at the end of your website's <body> before the closing tag:

Truths programmers don't want to know

Actually, genuinely caring about people will make you a far better programmer than any possible pile of degrees, certifications, prizes, or portfolio pieces ever could.

dog c starts like

int main (int arfc, char* arfv[])

Singletons in programming are just globals with extra steps

❌ This strike could negatively impact the economy
✅ Underpaying workers is negatively impacting the economy

Absolutely brainwormed by this article on how we’re rapidly ending up (or have already ended up) in post-capitalist feudalism and it just makes so much sense I’m surprised I wasn’t thinking of things this way: pluralistic.net/2023/07/24/ren

I guess it makes a difference when someone gives something a name

@iitalics dns cant be that hard its literally just cache invalidation and naming things

I recently finished watching Sarah Zedig's video about Tunic and it's a really good watch

I held off on watching the whole video for a long time until I had played the game, but if you have not played the game watch the first spoiler free section

"The Legend of TUNIC: Obscurity, Nostalgia, and Copyright [CC]" - let's talk about stuff.

Turns out that Web Environment Integrity proposal everybody is getting angry about (imo very legitimately) was effectively already shipped by Apple in Safari last year: httptoolkit.com/blog/apple-pri

That means if Chromium ships it too, we could quickly move to 90%+ of browser traffic being attested. Not good!

Important sets:
ℂ the complex numbers
ℕ the natural numbers
ℚ the rational numbers
ℝ the real numbers
𝕏 the set of fascists wannabes
ℤ the integers

people: “so uh, youre trans, right, uh, have you gotten, uh, ‘the surgery?’”

me: “yea i have” blades descend from my arms and i slice them in half
