@hikari@social.noyu.me I still miss when YouTube allowed people to submit translated subtitles for videos. That was such a great feature.
two replies i got that i want to highlight:
• someone wished social media could crowdsource alt text, and i love this idea. i'd rather have a diverse set of interpretations than make it an all-or-nothing obligation on the original poster
• a tiny summary is better than nothing
The developer of Simple Mobile Tools, an Android app suite which has been historically well respected in the FOSS space, has sold their apps to a company called ZipoApps, a company that buys apps from independent developers to add advertisements and trackers to them. I highly suggest uninstalling any of the Simple Mobile Tools apps you have on your device and looking for alternatives.

@neauoire another thing that's part of this “myth”, i guess, is that the website i put up, https://hikari.noyu.me/, has this flying stars effect i'm really proud of, using WebGL. it's sort of a way to show off my graphics programming skills, but in truth, it was actually the first time i'd successfully written anything non-trivial in OpenGL — the skill i was demonstrating was one i had only acquired by the process of demonstrating it. and it ended up being useful in my career!
a twitter bio is a lie you tell yourself about who you want to be, that with some effort, might eventually be a truth

With the recent Substack news I think it’s time to watch that segment of @bcantrill’s “ethical dilemmas” talk again: https://youtu.be/0wtvQZijPzg?feature=shared&t=1795

Okay, now I'm a bit sad that I won't be at #37C3, and it's because of this talk:
https://events.ccc.de/congress/2023/hub/en/event/smtp_smuggling_spoofing_e-mails_worldwide/
Presenter #TimoLongin found an exploit in SMTP, notified commercial vendors GMX, Microsoft & Cisco in July, then published a blog post in the week before Christmas that describes how the attack works. Free software maintainers and admins were not warned in advance and had to rush to build workarounds.
Would've loved to talk to him about his idea of "responsible disclosure".
I'm always in awe of the small things this guy is able to make, absolutely brilliant!
