Shinigami Eyes is an important safety tool for queer people online. If you undermine it by making it so its users have to double-check if a person is ACTUALLY transphobic or not, you’re doing a disservice to everybody who needs it.

There’s an asshole on octodon (no real way to know who it is) abusing shinigami eyes by marking people such as Aer0h and packetcat as transphobic.

If you’re doing this you’re a piece of shit.

If you notice on your server that people are marked as transphobic just bc they’re not white and outspoken about the racism they face even if it happens to come from other queer people, please mark them as neutral or trans-friendly.

"This is government overreach", says corporation owning the biggest search engine, biggest video platform, most popular browser, most popular mobile OS, biggest ad platform and more

🇪🇺🔥 German MEP Daniel Freund delivered a scathing critique of Viktor Orbán, calling him the "most corrupt politician in the EU."

"Mr. Orbán, you've stolen at least €14 billion, built stadiums and palaces instead of schools and roads. No more EU funds for Hungary until the theft stops. We want our money back!"

He even called for a European arrest warrant.

I made a histogram of wealth distribution in the United States, using the Forbes 400 list that just came out. Almost the entire US population is in the red line at the left, one pixel wide. To fit Elon Musk on the graph, each pixel is $500 million wide. In other words, from the perspective of the very rich, $0 and $500 million look the same.

Supplementing FEMA with a new agency called MASCU, to balance out the yin and yang a bit

I've been hacking the radio in my 2013 Subaru Outback, here's what I've found so far:
- It runs on Windows CE 5.0
- The main GUI is powered by a single HUGE Adobe Flash program (ActionScript!)
- The CPU is a 32bit SuperH SH-4A architecture (SH7780) running at 500MHz
- There's a custom ASIC on board which appears to multiplex access to SDRAM?
- The Bluetooth module (CK5050+) runs Linux and is likely more powerful than the main CPU lol

I'm serious about this, btw, I think it's better to have a little code duplication sometimes

Don't Repeat Yourself is bad programming advice, Programmers can have a little code duplication as a treat

PROGRAMMING TIP
avoid repeating the same 4 lines of code twice by writing 270 lines of beautiful, abstract, generic code

If COVID has taught us anything, it's that people should be wearing masks in all healthcare settings, COVID or not.

In addition, if you're coughing or experiencing any other symptoms and can't stay home, please ensure you wear a mask wherever you go.

It doesn't matter if it's COVID or not, it's a matter of respect to try to do everything within your power to not expose others to whatever you may have.

tired: it's your own fault if the TLD your organization depends on evaporates for unrelated political reasons entirely out of your control

wired: shut down every .com whose index.html doesn't execute cleanly in x86 real mode

I never use Caps Lock, so I disable the Caps Lock key completely with xmodmap, to avoid hitting it by accident.

Occasionally my X server gets into caps-lock state anyway. (Usually some complicated stunt was involved, like attaching x11vnc to the display remotely.) And then I can't turn it off again using the Caps Lock key.

So I wrote a tiny X client that lets me type 'xcapslock off' at a shell prompt …

… and then I had to make an alias to it, called 'XCAPSLOCK OFF'.

New #blog post wherein misreading a @foone post made me ask the question "What if we put an image in your image?"

This post was in my drafts for months, finally found a few seconds to finish it off.
