“If you know your network and your systems, you need not fear the result of a hundred cyber battles." - Sun Tzu, The Art of Cyber War

Truchet tiles spotted

They did this cool thing where there was one area of the walkway tiles with the chaotic/aperiodic Truchet tiles, and another area tiled with one repeating tile that formed a complete unbroken picture with the Truchet tiles but were themselves totally regular, so it was like this rough border with order on one side and chaos on the other

This is still in the park around the Tower of the Sun. Every individual little part of this place had so much care and thought put in it

@mcc I love when places put in fun tiles, like this wonderful pentagonal plaza in Stockholm

YOU CANNOT GRIND THE BONES OF YOUR ENEMIES INTO DUST TOMORROW IF YOU DO NOT HAVE SOMETHING TO EAT.

Now that tech industry invents terms like "prompt engineering" (supposedly, you must know how to ask bot a question) which is an insult to engineering as such to begin with, that very term defeats entire purpose of Large Language Models - interacting with bot using natural language you'd normally use. If you have to "engineer" your prompts, that means LLMs already failed to deliver :this_is_fine:

botsin.space PSA

Hey friends, it's hard to write this, but it's time to retire botsin.space. I wrote a post about it here: muffinlabs.com/posts/2024/10/2

TLDR the site will go read-only on or around December 15th.

I'm so thankful for all the support and good times here ❤️ thanks everyone

The only thing Jeff Bezos‘ editorial in the Washington Post convinced me is that we need a steep wealth tax and that the existence of billionaires is a public policy failure.

- You mean "dual carriageway"?
- No.

I recently found out that my department at work is being shut down, so I'm looking for a new position!

I spent the last 6 years building advanced security assessment capabilities around hardware/IoT, industrial, marine OT, and x86 platforms. Before that I spent 5 years as a pentester. I excel at weird and novel stuff where there's no template.

I'm based in the UK and I'm looking for a remote full-time role.

Thanks!

This year's DMCA section 1201 rulemaking process finished a few days ago. There's already been comments by various people on the position taken by the Register on the proposed exemption for video game preservation, but there's something else that caught my eye when reading the recommendation of the Register: For the exemption on data mining for research purposes, they spent considerable amounts of text on considering if the security mechanisms researchers would be required to use are adequate
