@jyasskin @slightlyoff @poswald also, if a tool for controlling people becomes a normalized practice in certain contexts - enterprises, militaries, wherever - it will inevitably spread beyond those contexts with time. the only meaningful opportunity to prevent that spread is right at the beginning.

Turns out that Web Environment Integrity proposal everybody is getting angry about (imo very legitimately) was effectively already shipped by Apple in Safari last year: https://httptoolkit.com/blog/apple-private-access-tokens-attestation/

I don't know who needs to hear this but it's perfectly okay for "nb" to mean both "non-Black" and "nonbinary", and it's perfectly okay for "poly" to mean both "Polynesian" and "polyamory". While many things ARE indeed driven by racist colonizer logic, abbreviations are just … not? "Words getting shortened" is a universal linguistic process, it happens all the fucking time, and it's okay for different communities & dialects & registers to mean different things by words.

I saved this a while ago and I still laugh every time I read it. I'm not sure what it is about it, but it's one of those things that are always funny to me. There are only two meme/cartoons that have this effect on me (the other one is Dog Fort)
