it's also an interesting exercise because concepts like like “place of honour”, “highly esteemed deed … commemorated”, “system of messages”, “powerful culture” are fairly complicated. glossing is required!

is there a project to translate the WIPP messages (http://wipp.info/ ; “this place is not a place of honor” etc) into every language. if not, it must be started. my gf just remarked to me that these should be the new sample texts for translation, instead of the Lord's Prayer

Now you've encoded whatever social biases exist in your source instances and broadcast them out at scale.

Also now a person on instance A can be severed from a person on instance B with _no human decisions or notifications_ happening for the admin of A or the admin of B.

Without circular dependency and source contamination prevention it may not be with any human decisions in anyone engaged in the list itself, depending on how things are set up.

One of the core fundamental failures of consensus #blocklists is the lack of definitive signal in the source list.

Instances get added to an instance's list because:

* They are CSAM
* They had a bad interaction with the moderator
* Because there was a moderation disagreement
* Because they are shutting down
* Because they have a different policy toward CW or adult content
* Because someone _else_ blocked them who a moderator trusted
* Because someone else blocked them and everyone's busy

There is no way we can have anywhere near one million satellites in orbit without going into full Kessler Syndrome and destroying everything in orbit - making satellite science, communication, and interplanetary exploration impossible for decades.

I'm sure there are, somewhere, actual designers that know this and are fighting it. Presumably there are managers resisting because of trends and fashion. (I can't explain why it happens in the community led open source projects though.)

If your job ever involves passing judgement on an interface, go read the Design of Everyday Things. It might be getting up there in years but it's a classic for a reason. If doors don't drive you crazy, don't manage user experience.
