re-upping this one again
so many forms of writing are rendered nearly useless if they have no info on *when* they were written
“What makes biking dangerous is all the cars. What makes the bus so slow is all the cars. What makes driving a car so slow is all the cars. What makes everything too far away to walk is all the space we have to reserve for the cars.” 🚗 🚙 🚗 🚙 #biketooter
One of our cargo pods broke up in the planet’s atmosphere, strewn over sparsely-populated prairie. Fortunately the humans think it was one of their own launch vehicles.
We’ve been driving one of their “you haul” land carriers to collect fragments from a farmer. We wear our human shapesuits, practising their strange language: “Ja, we are from SpaceSex.” We know no other phrases.
It goes well, but we almost blow our cover when one of the locals offers us indigestible snack food. We hurry away.
On the way, we pass the real human pickup party, their impossibly angular truck bogged beside the road. We wave.

I'm sure this is obvious to many, but here's something I'd have told myself a few months ago:
When your game has white-colored text, "FFFFFF" may seem like a sensible, easy hex value for the color white, but it's usually too hard on people's eyes when they have to look at it all the time. Try "DFDFDF" or so for still-white-but-not-super-radiant white.
@NanoRaptor i'm really glad i got to learn this today, thank you!
i guess i 🤷♂️just assumed🤷♂️ everyone did this, and never thought about it.
turns out, maybe it's either easy or i messed up my roll for superpowers at character creation 😸
i wonder if it's related / analogous to recognizing words largely by the shape of their perimeters or being able to recognize fastener sizes, thread pitches, &c at a distance.
A steam curator named "Woke Ccontent Detector" said the following about our game Kitsune Tails:
"Contains overtly pro-LGBT+ messaging. Features multiple lesbian characters, including the player character. Features lesbian romance."
It's great when a person really understands what we're going for and I thought it was a lovely review and wish more people could read it, even if they did not recommend the game!
It is 2024, and I have written a (basic) application for Digital Research GEM
It was an interesting little adventure. The whole of the operating environment is controlled through a single software interrupt vector, INT 0xEF
. Once I got a document explaining what data needed to be present in which registers when firing the interrupt, it was (sorta) smooth sailing.
Code can be found here. It's 16-bit real mode C, so mind your head!
This would not have been possible without the following sources:
just going to leave this here
