i dislike how many problems can be solved by “buying things” i already have too many “things” i don't want to have to get even more of them i don't want to consume i don't want to accumulate excessive physical manifestations of material wealth

This whole situation is about as believable as a Russian dissident or oligarch falling out of a midrise window in Moscow. Like the Boeing whistle blower I don't think it much matters if "foul play" was involved because this whole scenario is foul af.

This young man was very brave and righteous to blow the whistle and was undoubtedly under immense social and professional pressure not to. He's fucking up A LOT of people's grifty gravy train.

We should read his words

I was just talking to a colleague about how much of a bubble AI is. These companies are in so deep they can't tell the truth. They are all lying about the efficacy, the costs to consumers and most importantly how & when this tech works or doesn't.

Is there enough money on the line to kill over?

There's likely a trillion bucks of valuations across the industry. Billions in sunk costs, billions in c suite remuneration, billions in VC mgmt costs.

One thing I find a bit annoying is how often nowadays software features feel like MVPs that are left unmaintained and that were never followed up by a version that's not just a prototype

Y'ever notice that FEMA says you ought to have backup medication supplies in case of a disaster,

but insurers will never pay for you to have and maintain such a supply because it's "excess",

and doctors insist that the desire to have continuity of medication is addictive, "drug-seeking behavior"?

Exploiting mansplaining as tradecraft during WW II:

“If she wants to know something specific, but doesn’t want people to notice her asking questions, she should simply make incorrect statements while in the company of experts. Her companions will correct her, especially if they're men.”

From Elyse Graham's “Book and Dagger”, describing a training school for the SOE.

#BlueSky hasn’t ruled out ads, which means it hasn’t ruled out **tolerance for the insidious incentives** that ads bring. Namely, tolerance for hate and abuse in the name of eyeballs and growing the audience. Just like Twitter did.

This is probably also a good time to bring up BlueSky’s deep entanglement with bitcoin scams, considering it was founded and is heavily funded by bitcoin grifters.
