I love these designs for an Amiga computer from an alternate reality, where Commodore was able to build on their European success, and SuperDisks took off as the storage medium of choice.

P.S. I'm a big ol' Amiga fan. Our family got an Amiga 500 for Xmas '90 and I loved the heck out of it. Unfortunately that A500 has gone missing but I currently own two A1200s and I totally want more, haha.

@renbymon Oh god, yes. 💙

Like honestly it's a fucking shame the Amiga tanked as hard as it did in the end

@Thaminga It's a travesty IMO. The Amiga had so much potential but capitalism got in the way of it time and time again. Its success was entirely down to people who worked to make it success, like all the engineers, Tom Rattigan, and David Pleasance.

@renbymon God, absolutely. Just selling a product and keeping a stable amount of profit, servicing your goods and generally giving your customers isn't good enough; the market demands infinite growth, and the Amiga wasn't made for that.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the general state of computing now would be much better if it were still around.

@Thaminga Personally I think it would. Had Commodore UK won the bid to buy Commodore International I suspect that the landscape might be quite different.

Commodore UK had big plans for the Amiga line; resurrecting the AA chipset and developing new ones, newer models, etc. Escom just sat on it and did nothing.

@renbymon Can't believe the line of computers that introduced me to computer usage at all got VC'd out of existence.

@Thaminga It's almost criminal really. Commodore UK had made a deal with a chinese chip maker that was looking to stop bootlegging and go legit, the chip maker would promise half the bid and Commodore UK would make them the exclusive chip maker for the Amiga line; win-win for both parties.

Escom found out and offered the chip maker a better deal to not go with C-UK, so C-UK's bid fell through. After winning Escom just tore up the deal with the chip maker.
