User: *logs ticket asking for a network port to be made live*

Me: *makes port live and shuts down ticket*

User: Urr..why did you close this job? The printer is still not working.

Me: The ticket made no mention of a printer.

User: Well..yeah. Did not feel I had to. All it needs is the port making live and it should just work right?

Me: Nope. Work needs to be done in the background. I need to come and look at the printer. I will raise a second ticket for that for you.

User: Oh...how long will it take?

Me: Depends on what I find when I look at it.

If it needs a queue alteration, maybe a few hours.

It it needs MAC address reservation changing another few minutes on top of this. It depends on where the printer came from.

Whether it is out of the geographic scope of that particular switches' VLAN or not. They are not plug-and-play devices sadly. A few things have to go on behind the scenes.

User: I'll let you look at it.

Me: Yeah..probably for the best.

@avon_deer what's that old line about users knowing too much to be dangerous

Wordy toot: In the IT word details are important

@renbymon Just give me the end goal of your ticket and I'll do the diagnosis myself. :D

@avon_deer I usually ask "What are you trying to do?" to people who make requests like that.
