Not impressed with my council as the unenrolled deed poll that I sent them is, according to them, not "official".

The UK doesn't have "official" deed polls: deed polls are just signed affidavits and you don't need to do anything other than have it written in a specific way and be signed by two witnesses.

There are Enrolled deed polls but those aren't "more legal" than unenrolled ones. My deed poll was legal and official the second we (witnesses and I) signed it.

@renbymon yeah there's some fuckery going on there. can you challenge that decision?

@PsyChuan They asked for an "official" one. I sent them a reply asking them to 1) clarify what they actually want because there's no such thing as an official deed poll and 2) to update their website and communications because everything just says "deed poll" which I would assume means unenrolled, as they have to tell you if they need an enrolled one.

@renbymon I got real pissed off with my uni as they did the same thing.

I went to a random solicitors and asked them to stamp it to make it "official". Took it happily after that.

@jihyn I'm really hoping that I don't have to do that; I don't have the time to go out and do that because the council isn't following the law. X)

@renbymon true, tis a pain. I just couldn't be arsed arguing with em and a £5 stamp was an easy way to make it go away while I was in final year

@renbymon @jihyn If it helps, the route I took with my own unenrolled one was Bank Account -> Passport -> Everything Else

@andrew @jihyn Unfortunately my bank needs my passport updated first, lol.

My work have accepted my deed poll without question but they don't send out paper payslips anymore so it seems like council letter is the only option now. :s
