NAS RFC

At some point I plan to build a dedicated home #NAS as a family file archive. I'd like to hear recommendations from others of what to look for.

Desired features:
• Relatively easy set-up
• Needs to support multiple users
• Linux-based if possible (not necessary, however)
• NO. CLOUD. BULLSHIT. If I want it WAN-accessible, I will roll my own solution.

Synology is currently on my radar, but I'd like to hear more. Either feedback about Synology, or alternatives that are worth looking at.

@dragonarchitect Not sure if this is what you mean but we're using TrueNAS/FreeNAS and it's been absolutely rock solid for us.

@renbymon That's in the spirit of my prompt for feedback and suggestions and the like!
