Mental health -
With the issues I've been having with the wifi tonight, all I can think about is how much it'll cost to get a dongle, as I'll never be able to run a wired connection in this household, and all the faff it'll be to set up and the likelihood that it'll all go wrong, and my brain can't stop catastrophising everything and inventing worst-case scenarios.
My brain sucks, and I just wish it would leave me alone.

@Bowsette 1) Roughly how far is your machine away from your home router.
2) What make/model of router is it (or who is your ISP if you're unsure)
3) What do you currently use for wifi in your computer?
re: Mental health -
@renbymon 1) It's in the room above the one with the router.
2) BT Home Hub 6.
3) ASUS PCE-N15 11n Wireless LAN PCI-E Card
re: Mental health -
@Bowsette Okay. According to BT the Home Hub 6 is the Smart Hub and their documents say that it supports 802.11ac.
You've got two options.
1) Get a 802.11ac PCI-E card. This is what I have and I'm also in the room above the router with zero problems: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0B8CDDV14
2) Get some higher gain antennas for your current card.
I'd highly reccomend the first option and if you're still having issues then the higher gain antennas with the new card.
re: Mental health -
@renbymon I've been wondering that since the whole fiasco with the wireless headphones. I've been reluctant to upgrade though, probably because of my own stubbornness and ingrained fear of change.
