I just want a display.

I don't want a "8K Ultra HD Internet-connected coffee-making TV with broadband adapter and eleventy-three billion apps".

I just want a screen that displays whatever I put through the DisplayPort cable. 1080p is nice. 720p is fine.

Why is it so difficult to get display manufacturers to understand this‽

@Cal

I went on this exact same rant a few weeks back when my old TV set packed up.

In the end I had to admit defeat and got a google connected Sony.

It is every bit what I expected. A platform to show adverts in your face, upselling streaming services etc with a UHF TV tuner stuck on almost as an afterthought.

This is where things are going I'm afraid Cal. The ship has sailed. Just got to do what you can to deshitifiy as best you can.

You CAN still get display monitors like what you're after, But you will PAY for those as they are aimed at the commercial market.

@avon_deer @Cal Yeah, really your only options (until we start getting foss firmware for TVs) are to buy a used TV from a few years ago or to buy a monitor or projector.
