I've been seeing a lot of people complaining about VLC's new AI subtitles. Tbh, I think it's kind of a decent accessibility feature, if they work well. I'm not big on AI, for a lot of reasons, but I'd take generated subtitles over no subtitles.

@garrwolfdog I think they probably could have done better by calling it something other than "AI subtitles", like maybe "automated" or something similar.

Techbros with their LLMs have made "AI", as a term, a poisoned chalice whatever it's used for.

@renbymon true, but the reactions I've seen to the announcement have been kinda disproportionate, in some cases. As far as I can tell, they're not doing anything youtube hasn't been doing for years.
I dunno, guess I'm just trying to navigate the whole mess.
