harry potter / JKR related
Only just got around to listening to this this absolutely excellent critique. I obviously knew that JKR is an abhorrent person and also... not particularly good at writing... It was already sort of surprising to me that the books (especially the later ones) were as popular as they ended up being.
But holy fuck - I did not realise how awful she actually is. The most terrifying takeaway from this is how somebody with such clearly fucked views on the world can produce a work that normalises them so effectively. It's actually quite assuaging that she now clearly announces how much of an awful person she is.
