Can any IT mutuals recommend a good small knife/box opener? Could do with one for opening taped boxes and cutting plastic straps in the office rather than using a pair of scissors.

@renbymon I have one of those Stanley snap-off ones. It has done the job for years despite the slightly fragile initial impression.

It also makes me think of The Stanley Parable every time I need to open something.

@kevin The micra actually solves another problem, as I've also been looking for a pair of small scissors for cutting cable ties.

@renbymon only real downside to it is it seems to be fifty fuckin quid

@kevin @renbymon Boxes and cable ties?

As some who worked who did DC work for a decade, I highly recommend the weatherman wave.

The bit set for it makes a great assortment for low torque stuff if you don't feel like also carrying a something like a Wera Toolcheck+(although highly recommend that as well for when higher torque or nuts are needed).

@vvelox @renbymon can also approve of the Tool Check set, got one in my bag just now, undid a couple of bolts that a screwdriver was just chewing through.

@renbymon I eventually grabbed a Troika Egon off Amazon soe years ago because it isn't really a knife and it fits on a keyring.

@renbymon the Klever ones are dirt cheap and do me pretty well to be honest, even when faced with plastic strapping. you just gotta cut into them at an angle to go through them.

@renbymon seconding Stanley recommendations, though I've also got one of these useful little Rolson knives, it'll fold up safely with the blade covered to fit easily in a pocket rolsontools.com/products/foldi

@renbymon when searching for "smallest flipper knife" I did end up purchasing a cool hand 2.2 edc knife a while ago, which is just under 4" end to end while open. Incredibly easy to lose lil thing.

@renbymon leatherman squirt es4

Has all of the tools needed to change a plug including the wire strippers.

@renbymon I just use a box cutter (any brand) for such things.

@renbymon I continue to swear by Gerber pocket knifes for all my box opening needs.
