Just had a really interesting presentation in work where someone was looking at the energy usage of ads on websites. Measuring the processing power required to fetch all the resources and render them into a page.

Ads blocked, average of 3.1W per page. Ads allowed, average 6.8W per page. Video ads use ~20% more energy than a static image ad.

My interpretation: blocking ads helps save the planet.
